Ari Borinsky
Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LCSW
Journey Clinical Member and KAP Provider
State: New York
What is your professional background?
I have a B.A. in Spanish Literature & Philosophy from Vanderbilt University and a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University.
Why did you choose to be a KAP practitioner?
I was blown away at the beauty and transformational potential of the KAP model after experiencing the medicine myself at an experiential training program.
Where are you and where do you practice?
My office is in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I share it with another Journey clinician, Maureen Fiorelli, and we are gearing up to hold group KAP sessions soon (4-6 clients)
How long have you been practicing KAP?
I’ve been practicing KAP since December 2021.
How do you hope to evolve or grow your PAP practice over the next few years?
I hope to build out more structured group work and organize retreats for mental health professionals to work with traditional Amazonian plant medicines in Peru
What would you tell a therapist assisting their first KAP client?
I’d tell the therapist to trust the medicine and the client’s inner healing intelligence.
What orientations or areas of expertise have you found synergistic with KAP?
IFS, Somatic psychotherapy, transpersonal psych in general.
What are some of the biggest mental health challenges you’ve observed within the community that you serve?
Complex trauma histories.
What are your motivations for offering KAP in your practice?
I want my clients to “feel” their feelings and to fully believe/embrace Dick Shwartz’s notion that “there are no bad parts”.
How has Journey Clinical helped you become a better psychotherapist/improve patient outcomes?
Journey has allowed me to continue working in this field…I had burned out on traditional talk therapy and was looking into switching professions during the pandemic…Journey has made it possible for me to feel committed again to my work
Do you have a patient success story that you would be able to share (omitting personal information)?
I’m currently working with a client who is having amazing results with KAP…during a higher dose KAP session last week his body was able to release some trauma that he had stored in his leg (from a car accident that occurred 15 years prior) and he re-engaged and worked through the memories associated with the event. He is now sleeping better and is amazed at the way his mind and body feel connected on a daily basis
What is your favorite part of Journey Clinical?
It’s great how accessible the Journey team is (including the prescriber) and how simultaneously relaxed/professional the culture is surrounding Journey.
